Cleaning

Your A&L windows and doors are designed for long term superior performance. To keep them looking and functioning at their best, follow these simple maintenance tips below.

Aluminium Products

Whether you've purchased our aluminium awning windows or our aluminium bi-folding doors, a little care will help retain their original condition. Aluminium should be washed to remove dirt deposits as often as necessary to wash the windows.

To clean aluminium, use the mildest treatment that produces satisfactory results. Start with warm water and soap or mild detergent; NEVER use harsh liquid chemicals, abrasive cleaners or steel wool.

Our aluminium awning windows and aluminium bi-folding doors require minimum maintenance but the finish may deteriorate if dirt is allowed to remain on the surface over a period of time. This is because dirt absorbs moisture present in the atmosphere, and moisture contains salt when near the ocean, and other impurities in industrial areas. This combination can cause deterioration of almost any surface finish.

In rural areas where there is very little contaminated moisture, you may need to clean your aluminium awning windows or aluminium bi-fold doors only every six months.

In industrial and coastal areas, washing at intervals of one to three months may be required, and more frequently in locations particularly close to the ocean or in heavily polluted industrial areas, especially where they're sheltered from being washed by rain.

Glass

A&L single and double glazed window panes are easy to keep clean. Keeping your A&L windows and doors and in pristine condition only requires a small amount of maintenance.

Use a clean, damp cloth to wipe the surface, and then polish it dry with a lint-free cloth. Ensure that all cleaning cloths and tools are free from abrasive substances, dust, etc. Never remove abrasive materials such as mortar from the glass with a scraper; instead, flood both sides of the glass with water and dab with a clean sponge. Don't scrub with the sponge or scratching will occur.

Do not use the same sponge, rag or water used to clean tracks, thresholds or sash slides as fine, hard particles of dust/mortar etc. picked up from the slide may scratch the glass. Avoid extreme temperature changes (i.e. do not direct hot or cold water onto glass) as this may lead to thermal fracture of the glass. This is of particular importance on safety glass doors.
