Product Performance

To ensure your A&L windows and doors remain in perfect condition, the information below has been designed to assist in maintaining optimum performance.

Care and adjustment guide

A&L Sliding Doors

  • Track - Ensure the sliding door track has been thoroughly cleaned.
  • Operation - Do not operate the door if it is scraping on the track as this will cause scoring and possible failure of the rollers (see Roller adjustment).
  • Roller Adjustment - Slide the door to an almost closed position. Check that the door is plumb to its frame and clear of the track. If necessary, one or both rollers may be adjusted by turning one or both of the adjustment screws clockwise to raise the door and anti clockwise to lower. This adjustment can only be performed with all the weight of the door taken off the roller.
  • Keeper Alignment - Vertical alignment between the latch keeper and parrot beak (tongue) is adjusted by raising or lowering the keeper which has slide fixings.
  • Latch Adjustment - The parrot beak (tongue) can be extended or withdrawn to increase or reduce play between the door and its frame.

A&L Sliding Windows

  • Track - Ensure the sliding window track has been thoroughly cleaned.
  • Drainage - Sliding windows are designed to allow water into the sill channel, which is then drained through drain holes located beneath the sliding track. The drain holes must be cleared of any obstruction.
  • Sash Guides - The sash slides on nylon slides which are height adjustable via 3   sliding flats. To adjust the height of the sash and plumb it to the window frame, one or both of the slides can be removed and rotated to a higher or lower flat. (follow steps 1-4)
  • Sash Catch - The sash catch handle is designed to be squeezed as the sash is pulled open. This withdraws the latch blade from locking grooves in the window mullion.
    • The sash catch height can be adjusted by sliding it up or down the lock style. A lower catch position can enhance the operation of tall, narrow sashes which have a natural tendency to tilt when opened.
  • Security - The sash will only operate effectively when the lock style is parallel or nearly so to the mullion. To plumb the lock,  style adjust sash slides as above. (follow steps 1-4)
  • Sliding Performance - The sash slides are manufactured from self lubricating nylon. Plaster and mortar dust can dry the surface of the slides. To rectify, spray the cleaned sash track with a silicone lubricant.
    • The top and bottom rails of the sash have felt seals fitted.  These seals can become clogged and stiff with plaster and mortar dust, increasing sliding resistance. Rectify by scraping a blunt knife blade along the felt seal to dislodge grit.
