Celebrating 45 years of building local

For 45 years, A&L has been proudly supporting Australian builders, homeowners and communities. What began as a small, family-owned window manufacturer has grown into a trusted partner for the building industry.

Since day one, we’ve focused on getting our products into our customers’ hands in record time, leading the way in designing and innovating energy efficient windows and doors, and manufacturing every product right here in Australia. We’ve never wavered from that commitment

As we celebrate our 45th anniversary, we’re not just looking back but looking forward, because while a lot has changed since 1980, one thing never will: our dedication to reliability, industry leadership and being Always Australian.

From a small shed in Bayswater to a builder’s best‑kept secret

When founders Arion Pierson and Les Johns spoke with local builders back in 1980, they discovered a common frustration of inconsistent lead times and unreliable supply. Determined to find a better way, they set up a small manufacturing facility in Bayswater, Victoria, and began making windows with one simple goal: to make life easier for builders.

At a time when the average lead time for windows was around two months, A&L offered a consistent 5 to 10 day turnaround. It was a game changer for builders, and word quickly spread.

As A&L entered the new millennium, the business continued to grow. In 2000, A&L Windows Queensland was established, expanding our reach and bringing the same dependable service and manufacturing standards to the Sunshine State.

In 2008, we opened our Keilor showroom, giving homeowners and builders the opportunity to see and experience our products firsthand. It was a milestone that reflected our growing footprint across the country and our continued investment in local infrastructure.

A year later, we introduced the Boutique Platform Series, a product line designed with premium aesthetics, performance and the robust needs of contemporary Australian homes in mind.

Throughout the 2010s, A&L continued to grow its national footprint while staying true to its founding principles. We expanded our manufacturing capabilities with the introduction of our timber range, opened new facilities in Newcastle and Stapylton, and strengthened our support network along the entire eastern seaboard. In 2015, our Dandenong South facility doubled in size and by 2016, our showrooms were serving customers across Victoria, New South Wales, South Australia and East Queensland.

In 2018, A&L became part of the JELD-WEN Group, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of windows and doors. Then, in 2024, JELD-WEN Australasia business becomes part of the Platinum Equity portfolio of companies. As a result, there was an entity name change from JELD-WEN to VENTORA Group, a name which reflects the heart of our business and the impact we seek to create: enhancing aesthetics, our commitment to energy efficiency and ensuring security. While the name has changed, our way of working has not. A&L continues to support Australian builders with the same local service, manufacturing and commitment that shaped our early years.

Leading the Australian market in innovative energy efficiency technology

For decades, A&L has led the way in making energy efficiency not just a priority, but a practical reality for Australian homes. From pioneering double glazing as standard to designing smart solutions like inline reveal for improved insulation, we have consistently developed technologies that help homes perform better in real-world conditions.

Our commitment to innovation has only grown stronger with time. We introduced Low-E glass to reduce heat gain and loss across seasons, and most recently developed our innovative Hybrid sash technology. Designed for homes in cooler climates, Hybrid offers a lighter, more accessible alternative to fully thermally broken systems. It reduces heat transfer and improves thermal performance, while allowing greater design flexibility and seamless integration with our existing product ranges.

Each of these advancements reflects our long-standing belief that energy efficiency should be accessible without compromising on choice, functionality or aesthetic appeal. It is this hands-on approach, shaped by close relationships with Australian builders and homeowners, that has made A&L a trusted partner for 45 years and will continue to guide us into the future.

Why builders have chosen us for 45 years

In construction, consistency is everything. When timelines slip or budgets blow out, the impact is immediate. That is why builders across the country continue to place their trust in A&L. Because we make it easier to keep projects on track.

From our earliest days, we’ve worked closely with builders to understand exactly what they need: reliable lead times, transparent pricing and local support. These are the foundations of our business, and they remain unchanged today.

Our products are made for Australian homes using materials sourced from local suppliers wherever possible. We invest in Australian jobs, facilities and communities, and we back our customers with on-the-ground support teams who can be on-site within 48 hours when it counts.
